Work packages in the SONOPULP project
SONOPULP is organised in 7 work packages:
- Work package 1 identifies non-wood fibre sources from annual plants/agro waste for pulping process. This includes the analysis of the technical suitability, availability and logistics of these raw materials. Work package 1 delivers a list of most suitable annual plants/agro waste for processing into pulp by means of high-power US technology.
- Work package 2 determines the optimum operation conditions of high-power US treatment to separate fibres from the chosen raw material of Work package 1. The characterisation of the fibre properties will be carried out in Work package 3. With these results potential applications for the produced pulps will be evaluated.
- The focus for the use of the fibres in this project is the paper production with special view on strength properties of the paper. In Work package 4 all three groups of fibres – fibres from annual plants/agro-waste, recovered paper and virgin pulps from wood – will be treated with high-power US to achieve or enhance the properties of pulp for the paper production.
- In Work package 5 the material streams (process liquids respectively) of the fibre separation process in Work package 2 and 4 will be evaluated for additional value added products and/or biogas. This leads to a zero waste perspective for the pulping process of annual plants/agro-waste.
- Work package 6 evaluates the production of paper by using annual plants/agro waste and the high-power US technology under environmental, logistics and socio-economic aspects. For this purpose life-cycle assessments will be carried out to compare conventional sources like recovered paper with annual plants/agro-waste.
- Work package 7 includes the coordination of the project with preparation of meetings, reviewing of the project progress and the internal plus external communication.
